Bank Holidays 2021: List of National, Govt., & Saturday Bank Holidays in India

Banks play an important role in the financial system of a country. It is essential to keep updated with the technology and all other financial-based subjects. On another hand, the workers need some rest from their work to get the best output when they back again to work. Likewise, by considering various other reasons, the government accepted the long-pending demand of workers that second and fourth Saturdays be declared as public holidays for banks in India on 21st August 2015. In a country like India, there are many religious festivals that would be celebrated by most. So, the government of the State, Central, and Union Territories were listed the bank holidays 2021 under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. On the account of National holidays, government holidays, and on second and fourth Saturdays, the banks in India remain closed. The bank holidays are decided by the Reserve Bank of India.

As mentioned above, both private and public sector undertaking (PSU) banks are closed on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month. The fifth Saturday is a working day for banks if a particular month has five Saturdays. Here, the list of Saturday bank holidays in 2021 also given below. National Bank holidays: January 26th (Republic Day), August 15th (Independence Day), and October 2nd (Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti).

Saturday Bank Holidays 2021

As said early, the Reserve Bank of India declared in 2015 that both private and PSU banks in India will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of a month. Banks will remain operational full day on other Saturdays. Also, banks in India are closed every Sunday.

For all private sector and public sector banks, Saturday bank holidays will be the same across all the states and union territories in India. But, ATMs will continue to be open even on the second and fourth Saturdays when banks are closed.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the banks will remain shut for more than 40 days in 2021.
