Summers are here and it would be a good idea to make little changes to your interiors to make them suit the season. These are very little things that you can take care of when you choose furnishings for your home. Here are some of the things that you can do:
Use of summer friendly patterns
When choosing your home furnishings for summers, try to reduce the use of very bold or flashy prints and patterns, e.g. Chintz, Brocades, Damask, animal prints. You can use these after this season. Instead, use patterns that have a fresh look, e.g. Fleur-de-Lis – a pattern with origins in French monarchy; tiny florals in soothing colors; thin or medium stripes in a combination of white and some other soothing colors like yellow or light green or shades of blue Sea-Green and Turquoise are some specific colors themes which can instantly provide that much needed cool freshness to your home interiors, amidst all the heat going around.
Use of summer friendly colors
For summers, try using colors that have a soothing effect. This includes lighter shades of colors from the blue-green family or light shades of secondary and tertiary or quaternary colors, e.g. lavender, baby pink, light green, sage, buff. A particular space can have a few elements in bold colors, but not too many if you are decorating the space for summers. Those few bold colors can be interspersed between the lighter shades to achieve a beautiful effect, e.g. purple cushions with light blue ones on a beige sofa.
Use of summer friendly fabrics
For summers, it is a good idea to choose fabrics that breathe, are light and can be washed easily. Natural fibers like Cotton and Linen are a good choice. You can minimize the use of silk, velvet, chenille and synthetic fabrics during the summer season. Or you can use such heavy fabrics in spaces that you do not use frequently, but for areas where your family sits frequently use the former.
Get rid of things tricky to wash or clean
You can avoid using heavy carpets or heavy curtains or heavy covers for this season, or place them in rooms or spaces which are least used. For rooms that are used more frequently, switch to furnishings that are easy to wash as we need to wash fabrics more frequently during the summer season. Such furnishings include ones that are composed of natural fibers and are light in weight.
Other decor items
Besides the aforementioned, there are a few more things that you can do, optionally. You can occasionally use fresh flowers; using seasonal varieties to adorn otherwise dull spaces or simply put them in a little basket and hang it on a wall. You can adorn a plain wall by using wall art, use decals, wall stickers, preferably selecting a theme related to nature – trees, birds, butterflies. Choose colors according to the season, avoid glittery and flashy material, keep it simple. You can also consider placing just a few indoor plants in empty corners of rooms.
The idea here is to choose colors, fabrics and other items wisely to avoid a very bold look and bring in more freshness and youthfulness to your interiors, which is a solace to the people living in your home.
