Dr. Basem Hamid is a board-certified neurology and pain medicine specialist based in Houston, Texas. Syrian-born Dr. Hamid earned his medical degree at Damascus University School of Medicine in Syria’s capital city. After graduating, he relocated to the United States and promptly completed an internship at Mount Sinai University in New York City.

Throughout his career, Dr. Basem Hamid has focused heavily on research. Perhaps most notably, he served as an assistant professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. The board-certified neurology specialist also served as the world-famous cancer center’s pain fellowship program director.
The Syrian-born Damascus University graduate has also held other research-led and teaching-focused roles, including assistant professor of neurology and anesthesiology at the University of Iowa. He’s highly regarded as a principal investigator in an ever-growing number of high-profile medical studies related to pain care.
As a researcher and principal investigator, the Lone Star State-based subject matter expert is especially well-known for his neuropathic and cancer pain management work. He has subsequently published numerous journal articles related to these topics and several book chapters on various closely related subjects.

Now in successful private practice, clinician Dr. Basem Hamid continues to lead the field as a specialist in pain medicine. In his dual role as a prolific researcher and esteemed clinical practitioner, Dr. Hamid heads up operations at Houston’s renowned Innova Pain Center while continuing to contribute toward crucial research as a principal investigator.
