One of my friends asked me ‘Are you using Pure Honey?‘ a few days back. Coincidentally I saw the study conducted by the Center for Science and the Environment recently. The studies on the contamination of honey were also taken. Some of the major brands are adulterated with honey. That study revealed that some brands mix sugar syrup with honey. Some of them are brands imported from China and some are made in India.
Pure honey is nutritious and fat-free, especially rich in antioxidants and antibacterial properties. But it is said that adulterated honey is harmful to health if used for a long time. The sugar in it may increase the blood sugar level. The study also found that obesity can lead to problems.
So the next time you buy honey, find out if it is pure unadulterated honey or if the honey you are currently using at home is original.
How to check Original Honey?
The test is published by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Take a glass of clean water in it and leave 2 drops of honey in it. If the honey goes down into the water as it is, it is pure unadulterated honey.
Probably if the honey mixes with water immediately after pouring and changes color in the water it is contaminated honey. So do this test next time and consume honey.
