IPL 2018 opening ceremony set to take place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, April 7. Also, the first game of the IPL 2018 season will also be at the same venue on the same date. Because of the event and first match on the same date, except MI and CSK captain, all other captains will miss out due to logistical reasons.
In previous seasons, the opening ceremony event was conducted a day before the first game of the tournament. So, all team captains have got an opportunity to attend the event. Now, in this IPL 2018 opening ceremony, the two franchise captains only will use the stage and will take the “Spirit of Cricket” pledge.
In the first match of this tournament, Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings as the season’s opening match. CSK on their first title by beating the Mumbai Indians in 2010 final, also they won 2011 final consecutively. After that, MI has won final against CSK in 2013. These two teams will meet each other in the first game of this tournament. It creates more curiosity on IPL fans as CSK return to IPL after two years and MI is the defending champions though.
As said early that the opening ceremony will be conducted with only two captains. However, all captains have met in Mumbai already on April 6 to take the pledge. Also, there will be two matches in the second-day schedule, so Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kolkata Knight Riders are had their trip to their respective venues.
