Reliance Jio, the leading telecom operator in India, has announced the launch date of its new wireless internet service, Jio AirFiber, at its 46th annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday. The service, which promises to offer fiber-like speed over the air using 5G technology, will be available from September 19, coinciding with the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Jio AirFiber is a wireless internet service that uses a pan-India 5G network to deliver high-speed internet to homes and offices, without the need for physical wires. Users can enjoy up to 1Gbps internet speed by simply plugging in and turning on the device, which resembles a white router with an antenna. The device will create a personal Wi-Fi hotspot in the premises, which can be managed and controlled via an app. The service also offers various features and benefits, such as:
- Parental control and Wi-Fi 6 support
- Seamless integration with Jio set-top box for TV viewing
- Easy installation and management via an app
- Ability to block certain websites or devices on the network
How is Jio AirFiber different from JioFiber?
JioFiber is a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband service that requires laying of optical fiber cables to the premises of the users. Jio AirFiber, on the other hand, uses a wireless technology that bypasses the need for last-mile fiber.

This means that Jio AirFiber can be installed and activated much faster and easier than JioFiber. Moreover, Jio AirFiber can cover up to 1000 square feet on the same floor of a house or an office, thanks to its unique spectrum holding, the company claims.
What is the price and availability of Jio AirFiber?
The company has not revealed the price and plans of Jio AirFiber yet, but it is expected to be competitive with other broadband players such as Airtel, BSNL, and ACT.
The service will be launched on September 19, and users can register their interest on the official Jio website or app. The company aims to connect 200 million homes with Jio AirFiber in the next three years.
What are the other announcements made by Reliance Jio at the AGM?
Apart from Jio AirFiber, Reliance Jio also announced several other products and services at its AGM, such as:
- Jio SmartHome services, which include Jio Home Router, Jio Home app, and JioHome Set Top Box. These services will enable users to access various smart home automation features, such as smart alarm, smart geyser, smart fan, etc.
- Jio Cloud PC, which is a cloud-based computing service that allows users to access Windows 10 desktop on any device, such as smartphone, tablet, or TV. The service will also offer Microsoft Office 365 suite and unlimited storage.
- New JioCinema features, such as multi-video, picture-in-picture (PiP), and multi-lingual support for various Indian languages.
- Jio AI, which is an artificial intelligence platform that aims to develop India-specific AI models and solutions for various sectors.
