Vichithra made her acting debut with the Tamil film Porkkodi in 1991, but the film was not released. Her first released film was Aval Oru Vasantham in 1992, where she was credited as Jayanthi. Her breakthrough came in the form of a glamorous role in Selva’s Thalaivasal (1992), where she played a character known as ‘Madippu’ Hamsa.
She has appeared in supporting roles, notably in Rasigan (1994), Muthu (1995) and Suyamvaram (1999). She has also acted in a few Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films, such as Pokiri Raja (1995), Azhakiya Ravanan (1996), King (1998) and Gandharva Rathri (2000).
